MANILA, Philippines — For school year 2016 to 2017, the Ramon Magsaysay High School in the city of Manila now has 5,851 students for grade 7 to grade 10.
The school is the biggest in terms of population in Manila.
Aside from regular classes, RMHS also has a room for visually impaired students and they also offer special science classes.
However, the school is not admitting students for grade 11 even if this school year is the formal start of the senior high school as part of the K to 12 program.
“Before you can open senior high school, you should have available classrooms, available qualified teachers and the facilities that the students will use. At the moment, we are not yet ready because we have a huge population,” principal Alma Claveria-Tadina explained.
The principal of Ramon Magsaysay High School stresses that if a new school building is built then they might offer senior high school for the next school year.
She says it is not advisable that they just add additional floors to the present buildings.
“We hope that there will be benefactors or sponsors, like the city government or if we can request DepEd for an additional building,” the principal said.
Meanwhile jose abad santos high school has more than 200 grade 11 students.
They are utilizing 8 classrooms in building number 3.
Aside from their classrooms, the school administration has also converted its garage as a workshop room for cookery.
And just outside of it is the workshop area for those taking up welding courses.

“For now, they are still on the core subjects, more on theories, more on lecture. Applications of their subjects will be on the second semester,” JASHS principal Laura Macalinao said.
Even if senior high school means additional year and extra expense, grade 11 students of Jose Abad Santos High School have a positive outlook on the program.
“We will be able to get advance knowledge before we enter college,” said Mary Rose Campo, Grade 11 student.
The school will be able to accept more senior high school students once the construction of a new building, which hopefully will start in September, is completed.
