PASIG CITY, Philippines — The historic opening of classes greeted Department of Education (DepEd) with series of complaints from parents concerning enrollment and kindergarten age requirements.
There are still a number of parents who did not heed DepEd’s advise on early registration and requirements which is why the are having problems today.
However, DepEd assured them that they will be accommodated but late registrants may miss some of their lessons.
For this reason, DepEd calls on parents to be responsible and plan early which school they plan to send their child to especially if they are in senior and junior high school.
DepEd is not denying that there are still problems in the full implementation of K-12 program but they are doing their best to solve it.
Like in Ramon Magsaysay High School in Quezon City where the school is very much ready for senior high school.
Aside from having enough classrooms they also have books for each and every student.
“We allotted classrooms for senior high school. We don’t have any buildable spaces, but we have vacant classrooms,” said Dr. Luis Tagayun, RMHS principal.
There are 6,002 public schools which offer senior high school while non-DepEd or private schools are 5,031.
DepEd advice parents not to force their child under 5 years old to enter kindergarten.
“What we don’t want to happen is the students having a hard time to go to class. Every level has its age requirement,” Asec Jesus Mateo said.
DepEd 2016 Oplan Balik Eskuwela hotline numbers are open for public consultation:
Senior high school hotline is 667-1188 and email address isshshelpdesk@deped.gov.ph
As of 12 this afternoon, DepEd recorded 612,000 enrollees in grade 11.
Asec. Mateo says it may increase to up to 1 million this week.
